Volunteer Trappers Needed Immediately

We're looking for a few good men and women who care about helping people and cats! Louisville is lucky to have thousands of residents who care for community cats, keeping them fed and sheltered and getting them neutered. However, some of our elderly and disabled caretakers are not able to trap and transport the cats. This is a critical need in our community. We need enough volunteer trappers to assist our most vulnerable cats and their caretakers. Who can volunteer as a trapper? Must be 18 years old. Have your own transportation. Hours are flexible, [...]

Kitten Season in January?

"About three weeks ago, I started yowling uncontrollably, which never happens in December. Then, I started feeling restless. I couldn't settle down. When Whacky Whiskers started following me around, I knew for sure what was happening ... I was in heat! I thought I had a few months of reprieve: no kittens, no male cats. But of course, this warm winter weather had to trick my body into thinking it was spring again. Now I'm a few weeks pregnant, and I'm worried! I wish I had a little tip of my ear missing like ZadieCat. [...]

Right now there are 84 cats in the homes of Alley Cat Advocates foster volunteers. Since we began, Alley Cat Advocates has been committed to providing a gold standard of care to our community cats. We do not euthanize cats that have treatable conditions. Healing Takes Time Healing takes time. Lolly Needs Your Help

Lolly Needs Your Help Last Spring Lolly showed up on a country road near a farm. On that very day, a group of loving cat caretakers were putting out traps to take their colony of cats to the Alley Cat Advocates Big Fix. They saw Lolly, a sickly new arrival, and decided to take her along. Their last minute decision saved her life! Lolly was spayed and vaccinated, but her veterinarian also observed a serious ear issue. Lolly has an ear polyp. It is in her ear canal, but growing into other areas of her [...]

Transforming shelters from places where animals go, to places where animals leave!

Matt Bershadker, President of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), released a Position Statement on the responsibilities of effective animal shelters. His article resonated with our team. Since we began in 1999, Alley Cat Advocates has been dedicated to collaboration with Louisville Metro Animal Services and The Kentucky Humane Society. Mr. Bershadker discusses the following themes that ensure the improvement of struggling shelters: Teamwork - When the very best partner with those who are struggling, more lives are saved and struggling shelters improve. Evolution - Shelters must continue to evolve [...]
