Things are Looking Rosey for Petunia

Petunia is staying at the Community Complex for extra care. She came to us a few weeks ago with severe diarrhea. She was very thin and disheveled. She has been receiving treatments to help stop her diarrhea and help her gain back weight. She still has a little more to go, but she is making improvements. Your donations will help us cover the costs of diagnosis and treatment of Petunia's "tummy troubles" and get her back to health. Please donate today. Make a Donation for Petunia

Kitten Season is Coming

Kitten season isn't just coming it is here at Alley Cat Advocates. Mother cats with tiny kittens are beginning to arrive at our doors. While moms are receiving vaccinations and getting spayed so that they will never have to care for another litter of kittens, the babies are cared for by our special group of kitten daycare volunteers. As we move into the spring season and kittens begin to arrive we need many supplies to care for the tiniest visitors to the Community Cat Complex. We are throwing a virtual Kitten Shower to help [...]

Alley Cat Advocates is excited to announce that the Bernice Barbour Foundation has awarded the organization a grant of $15,000.  These funds will go to support the spaying and neutering of cats in Jefferson County with a focus on those cats who make their home in mobile home parks. Alley Cat Advocates Celebrates 25 Years of Helping Community Cats

Founded 25 years ago today, Alley Cat Advocates has spayed or neutered more than 70,000 stray, free-roaming cats and has seen our community transformed into one that respects the needs of our citizens – cat lovers or not - and our community cats. After a successful capital campaign in 2019, Alley Cat Advocates was able to move into their current home at the Community Cat Complex located on the campus of Louisville Metro Animal Services. This move has enabled the organization to provide onsite spay/neuter surgeries and medical care for the cats. Adam Hamilton, Interim [...]

A ‘Cool’ Cat Needs Our Help

This Frosty doesn't have "two eyes made out of coal." Instead, he has two beautiful cat eyes that need some help. Frosty has a condition called entropion in his left eye. If you have been around awhile, you know that this happens when the eyelid curls inward and causes the hairs to rub against the eye. This irritation causes pain, and vision impairment and can lead to infections. Surgery will correct the problem and Frosty will go on his merry way soon. Meanwhile, please donate toward Frosty's surgery here.

Feeding Cats? Learn How to Make a Purrfect Feeding Station

Are you feeding community cats? Did you know that cold weather increases a cat’s energy and nutritional needs? You should provide extra food and extra water to prevent dehydration and replace it often to keep it from freezing. To prevent pests, only leave food out for 30 minutes to an hour and pick up any disposable plates or trash every time you feed. Learn more about feeding and feeding stations for community cats on our website.     Read More Here

Making Moses Happy

Big Moses will be so happy to have pain-free clear vision. This beautiful boy has been living life with entropion in both eyes. His eyelids curl inward, allowing fur to scratch against his eyes. It is very uncomfortable for him. Fortunately, this condition can be corrected. Alley Cat Advocates will make sure that Moses sees clearly very soon. Would you please help cheer Moses up by donating today toward his surgery today?

Daisy Gets Help to Return to Her Natural Beauty

No lip fillers are needed here. Daisy came to the Community Cat Complex with some pretty severe rodent ulcers that had her lips very swollen. Rodent ulcers have nothing to do with rodents. The actual cause is not completely clear, but veterinarians believe that it may be caused by an allergic reaction to something in the environment, which can even be fleas! Usually, there is mild swelling and an ulceration that looks like a little sore on the mouth area. Daisy's case is definitely severe, but thankfully rodent ulcers don't seem to be very painful [...]

Community Cat Caretakers Love Cats

It's no big surprise to us, but a recent study says that community cat caretakers care about the cats that they feed just as much as a pet. Caretakers who'd worked with Alley Cat Advocates in the past helped contribute data to this recently published study:” A Cat Is a Cat: Attachment to Community Cats Transcends Ownership Status” The study is now published in the Journal of Shelter Medicine and Community Animal Health.  You can read the article here.

Kittens are Cute – But There are Too Many

Soot & Sprite are the cutest pair of kittens, but they haven't had an easy start in life. Born in the winter months, it appears that frostbite damaged their kitten ears and left them very short and oddly shaped. They came into the Community Cat Complex with terrible upper respiratory infections and were very underweight. While we absolutely love Soot and Sprite, we know that they are the lucky kittens who survived being born over the winter and made it to us. Support our work and the care of these two with your donations so [...]

Tiffany has been a valued team member in the clinic department of Alley Cat Advocates since she joined the team last year. Tiffany is kind, compassionate and, no surprise, a huge animal lover. She also shares her home with two cats who don't enjoy hiking, so they stay home! Tiffany is a mom to a teenage human and married [...]
