Kittens are Cute – But There are Too Many

Soot & Sprite are the cutest pair of kittens, but they haven't had an easy start in life. Born in the winter months, it appears that frostbite damaged their kitten ears and left them very short and oddly shaped. They came into the Community Cat Complex with terrible upper respiratory infections and were very underweight. While we absolutely love Soot and Sprite, we know that they are the lucky kittens who survived being born over the winter and made it to us. Support our work and the care of these two with your donations so [...]

Lifelong Support Provided for Rare Condition

Precious is a beautiful and sweet girl that now lives permanently at the Community Cat Complex. When she was brought in with the rest of her colony for spay/neuter her jaw looked like there may be a mass. Further investigating ended with a diagnosis of patellar fracture and dental anomaly syndrome (pads). This condition is extremely rare and its cause is unknown. PADS is also called Teeth and Knees Syndrome, as they usually have double the number of teeth in their mouth (their baby teeth don't fall out) and their knees commonly break with little [...]

Community Partnerships Save Lives

Do you know what to do if you find a sick or injured community cat in Jefferson county? Many people aren’t aware that Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) provides care for sick or injured community cats. And Alley Cat Advocates is happy to step up to help when Metro Animal Services asks. A good Samaritan recently brought to Metro Animal Services a community cat who had been hit by a passing car. The impact was mostly centered on the left side of his face and his injuries appeared to be severe. On this Sunday, as is typical, there were no veterinarians at the shelter, but the employees recognized that this cat needed [...]

Life Saving Treatment Makes A Happy Outcome

We would like to share a very special story.  Max is a young cat who was neutered at the Community Cat Complex.  Very shortly after his neuter, his caretakers noted very odd behaviors.  After some testing, Max was determined to likely have feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).  In the past, an FIP diagnosis was considered fatal.  Fortunately, there has been a great deal of progress made in the treatment of FIP and a treatment now exists.  Unfortunately, this treatment is expensive and hard to get in the US.  Max was very ill when he was diagnosed [...]
