Alley Cat Advocates is proud to spotlight Lauren Kehr, a dedicated and devoted volunteer. Lauren began volunteering in 2000 after reading a Courier Journal article about Alley Cat Advocates and the Trap-Neuter-Release program. Since then, she has contributed her time in a number of ways, such as staffing tabling events, sitting on the board of directors, leading volunteer training, presenting to the community, cleaning equipment, and working at the spay/neuter clinic. Currently, Lauren is on the Education Community Outreach Team, where she assists in planning activities, and distributing flyers in local neighborhoods.
During her eighteen years with Alley Cat Advocates, Lauren has learned that there is more to the organization than just maintaining Louisville’s community cat population. “I learned the critical importance of not only neutering these sweet babies, but giving them needed medical care – perhaps the only medical care – they will ever receive,” she explains. “We give them our all: a thorough check-up, medication, immunizations, and occasionally, recovery care with one of our ‘foster humans’ until the cats are well enough to go home.”
Lauren has many fond memories of volunteering with Alley Cat Advocates. From caring for kittens to greeting caretakers, she has done it all. “I’ve made many friends through this labor of love and have a lifetime of memories that enrich me,” she shares. Describing ACA as a well oiled machine, Lauren explains there is a place for everyone that wants to volunteer. “If you love cats, come join us!”
We greatly appreciate Lauren and all of the volunteers that assist ACA. With their help, we have been able to spay and neuter over 40,000 cats since October 2000!
