In 2011, Chris Dennison was standing at her window when she saw a stray cat painfully limping across the yard. “Having indoor cats myself, I felt a tug of compassion to help the injured cat,” Chris said. Grabbing cat food in an attempt to help the cat, Chris walked outside and approached the hurt stray. But even in pain the cat ran away. Chris started leaving food outside every day. The cat would come back and eat as long as Chris was out of sight. “But one day, as I peeked out the window to watch him eat, I realized, in addition to his limp, this cat had an open, bloody gash on his face.” Chris started searching for a way to help stray cats, and after a little bit of searching she found Alley Cat Advocates!
With our help, Chris was able to trap Tux, getting him the veterinary care and neuter surgery he needed. Chris said “I was so impressed, I signed up for the very next ACA volunteer orientation! Having had previous experience with baby kittens, I fell into the role of fostering neonates, sick and injured kittens. This is my perfect retirement passion!”
As for Tux, the once fearful stray, he is now 8 years old and loves cuddles and head rubs. Chris wants to encourage anyone who loves cats and wants to make a difference to join Alley Cat Advocates. “Please consider volunteering for Alley Cat Advocates! You CAN make a difference!”
