Marley loves to interrupt Dewey’s morning reading!

After Dewey retired from teaching he was looking for volunteer activities to fill his time.

After attending volunteer orientation in February of 2006, Dewey went to the Big Fix the next month. He said one of the most memorable things he learned at orientation was that a breeding pair of cats can produce thousands of offspring. That was a big motivator for him to get involved.

For a number of years he helped out at the Big Fix on Sunday afternoons providing care for the cats – each trap had to be lifted so that someone could check the incision. He also helped with getting the Big Fix equipment stored in the warehouse Sunday evening. Several years ago, he built a number of cat trap racks for Alley Cat Advocates, and for some years now he’s been maintaining and repairing the cat traps for us!

To any future volunteers, Dewey said, “being a volunteer at Alley Cat Advocates has provided me an opportunity to meet new people, and get to know them. The fellow volunteers love animals and are willing to give up their time to help take care of them. I certainly enjoy being around cats, and there are so many needy cats out there.” Another real benefit that he talked about through volunteering at Alley Cat Advocates is that, “I’ve been able to get help with questions about issues that have arisen with my own cats. Some of the issues have been quite serious, and it’s been helpful to talk with others who are knowledgeable about cats.”

The team at Alley Cat Advocates thanks Dewey Beadle for his dedication and service.
