The Cats Need You

If you wish to donate your time, there are several ways you can volunteer at ACA.

We Believe in Change

Whether you can help only as your schedule permits or on a regular basis, we look forward to meeting you and sharing with you the good work we do for the cats.

You have the option of;

  • Volunteering on a weekly or monthly basis

  • Volunteering when your schedule allows

If you are interested in volunteering, please attend a Volunteer Orientation session. You’ll learn about Trap-Neuter-Return and how you can make a real difference for the cats in our community!

“Always fantastic people here who want to help as much as they can. If you’re willing to work with them, you will be heavily rewarded in kindness and assistance.”

Volunteers We Need

If these positions are not a good fit for you, contact us to see how you can help us.

Trappers are volunteers who help our most vulnerable cats, those who cannot get veterinary care because their loving caretakers are physically unable to trap and transport.

All you need is your own reliable transportation, a handful of hours in just a few days, and a passion for helping animals!

Saturdays are the beginning and end of the TNR process here at Alley Cat Advocates. Both eager first-timers, and veteran caretakers come to pick up their traps, trapping supplies, and go through procedures with trained Alley Cat Advocates representatives. Everyone also has the opportunity to learn the process with our volunteer trapper on proper techniques to ensure maximum success. At the same time, caretakers who trapped the week before are returning their traps and either celebrating success, or getting back on our schedule to trap again.

Throughout trap distribution and return, volunteers are needed at every step of the process!

  • Greet caretakers in the parking lot
  • Go over procedures with caretakers
  • Train on Trapping Techniques
  • Distribute Traps
  • Clean, Test, and Prepare Traps

Help surgical staff with wrapping spay and neuter packs, filling surgery baggies, cleaning instruments, and other tasks.

We need volunteer help Tues, Wed and Thurs from 12pm-2pm and/or 2pm-4pm.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help cats post surgery. Cat Recovery volunteers are needed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week with shifts starting at 9am, 10am and 11am and going into the afternoon.

These volunteers have direct contact with cats, surgical staff, and doctors and are responsible for assisting with cat recovering after their spay/neuter surgeries!

Morning Feeding – We feed each cat who has come through our program the morning after surgery. They will receive a nacho tray with wet and dry food. Volunteer help needed Wed, Thur, Fri from 8am – 11am.

Evening Feeding – We feed each cat who has come through our program no less than 4 hours after surgery. They get a nacho tray with wet food, dry food, and water. Volunteers are needed Tues, Wed, Thur from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Help us send the kitties home! The evening after surgery, all cats are returned safely to their caretaker(s).

Volunteer help is needed with this task Wed, Thur, Fri from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

The laundry never ends at ACA! Between towels and blankets from the cats in care and those needed in the surgery suite, there are tons of items on a weekly basis that need to be washed, dried, folded, and put away.

Our office team meets on Friday afternoons (12:30-3:30 pm) to help with a variety of program projects. For example, prepare for Saturday operations, collect donations, make reminder calls, admin support, clean and restock, etc.

We need volunteers to distribute door hangers and posters in Jefferson County zip codes.

Operational support volunteers make all of our programs possible!

  • Onsite Visits
  • Trapping
  • At-home Opportunities
  • Hotline Transcription and Calls
  • Cut Trap Covers, Rack Sheets, Surgical Blankets
