Petco Love Comes Through Again

Our friends at Petco Love have come through again. To ensure the health and wellness of community cats and to address a critical need for vaccinations against preventable diseases, Petco Love has provided Alley Cat Advocates with 1,000 more vaccines that will be given to community cats. This type of support for our mission helps us provide low or no-cost trap-neuter-return services to cats in our area.

Daisy Gets Help to Return to Her Natural Beauty

No lip fillers are needed here. Daisy came to the Community Cat Complex with some pretty severe rodent ulcers that had her lips very swollen. Rodent ulcers have nothing to do with rodents. The actual cause is not completely clear, but veterinarians believe that it may be caused by an allergic reaction to something in the environment, which can even be fleas! Usually, there is mild swelling and an ulceration that looks like a little sore on the mouth area. Daisy's case is definitely severe, but thankfully rodent ulcers don't seem to be very painful [...]

Community Cat Caretakers Love Cats

It's no big surprise to us, but a recent study says that community cat caretakers care about the cats that they feed just as much as a pet. Caretakers who'd worked with Alley Cat Advocates in the past helped contribute data to this recently published study:” A Cat Is a Cat: Attachment to Community Cats Transcends Ownership Status” The study is now published in the Journal of Shelter Medicine and Community Animal Health.  You can read the article here.

Big Help for a Shy Girl

Sabrina had a traumatic injury to her tail and needed to have a dead portion of the tail removed. She is feeling a little shy about the whole situation, so she wouldn't let us share a photo of her tail, but she is definitely looking and feeling better without the injured tail. Could you donate to show Sabrina that we love tailless kitties just the same as their tail-having friends?   Donate for Sabrina Today

Kittens are Cute – But There are Too Many

Soot & Sprite are the cutest pair of kittens, but they haven't had an easy start in life. Born in the winter months, it appears that frostbite damaged their kitten ears and left them very short and oddly shaped. They came into the Community Cat Complex with terrible upper respiratory infections and were very underweight. While we absolutely love Soot and Sprite, we know that they are the lucky kittens who survived being born over the winter and made it to us. Support our work and the care of these two with your donations so [...]

Lifelong Support Provided for Rare Condition

Precious is a beautiful and sweet girl that now lives permanently at the Community Cat Complex. When she was brought in with the rest of her colony for spay/neuter her jaw looked like there may be a mass. Further investigating ended with a diagnosis of patellar fracture and dental anomaly syndrome (pads). This condition is extremely rare and its cause is unknown. PADS is also called Teeth and Knees Syndrome, as they usually have double the number of teeth in their mouth (their baby teeth don't fall out) and their knees commonly break with little [...]

Community Partnerships Save Lives

Do you know what to do if you find a sick or injured community cat in Jefferson county? Many people aren’t aware that Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) provides care for sick or injured community cats. And Alley Cat Advocates is happy to step up to help when Metro Animal Services asks. A good Samaritan recently brought to Metro Animal Services a community cat who had been hit by a passing car. The impact was mostly centered on the left side of his face and his injuries appeared to be severe. On this Sunday, as is typical, there were no veterinarians at the shelter, but the employees recognized that this cat needed [...]
