We are passionnate about taking
care of community cats
Alley Cat Advocates was incorporated in 1999 as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide for the humane treatment of unowned cats in the metropolitan Louisville, Kentucky area.
In striving to accomplish our mission, our efforts focus on directing a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program in the safest, most efficient and cost effective way possible.
Community Cat Complex
At our facility, known as the Community Cat Complex, we able to welcome our volunteers, staff members and all who need our assistance. Under one roof, we have the space to adequately and effectively help all of Jefferson County.
Spay/Neuter Clinic Space – allowing us to return to directly providing surgeries for our community cat clients and LMAS’ community cats.
Medical Rehabilitation Space – allowing us to directly provide short-term care for community cats now being hospitalized and/or boarded at clinics throughout our community.
Special Needs/Hospice Foster Space – allowing us to house the small number of community cats for whom return to outdoor life is inhumane in a location adjacent to LMAS’ adoption facility, providing easy access for citizens interested in adopting these special animals.
Office Space – to comfortably house our staff members to ensure all operations run efficiently.
Gold Standard of Care
Alley Cat Advocates offers a gold standard of care for community cats. We do not euthanize cats that have treatable ailments/injuries. If a cat is not able to be placed back into the community because of a medical issue, we work with our adoption partners to place them up for adoption.
Our mission is to make our city the safest in the country for community cats!
Community Partners
Since we began in 1999, Alley Cat Advocates has been dedicated to collaboration with our community partners, Louisville Metro Animal Services and The Kentucky Humane Society.
Leaders of our three community organizations meet to plan, implement and assess the effectiveness of programs designed to increase spay/neuter, improve humane outcomes for animals and increase Louisville’s live release rate – the number of animals that make it out of our community shelters alive.
In 2012 our commitment to collaboration was recognized. Louisville was selected to participate in the ASPCA Community Partner program. The ASPCA worked with Alley Cat Advocates, Louisville Metro Animal Services and The Kentucky Humane Society to provide support, training, financial resources and tools to help partner agencies work together to achieve their shared goals to reduce intake and increase live outcomes. Although the formal ASPCA partnership ended in 2017 as anticipated, the leaders still look toward one another for advice and support.
