Petco Foundation grant of $38,000 will extend efforts to save more animal lives in Louisville.
Alley Cat Advocates of Louisville, Kentucky today announced it has been awarded a $38,000 grant by the Petco Foundation to support the Alley Cat Advocates Trap-Neuter-Return program.
Alley Cat Advocates is a local nonprofit organization serving Louisville and the surrounding counties. Using a humane Trap-Neuter-Return program, Alley Cat Advocates has altered over 35,000 stray cats in our community since they began in 1999. Since 2011 alone, these efforts have contributed to a 61% reduction in the intake of cats at our local shelters, dramatically reducing taxpayer cost, overcrowded shelters, and animal euthanasia.
The Petco Foundation investment will help Alley Cat Advocates to reach more cat caretakers, those wonderful men and women who provide food and shelter for outside stray cats in our neighborhoods. Working with these caretakers, Alley Cat Advocates will provide spay or neuter services, vaccinations, flea treatment and a full veterinary check-up for each community cat. Cats also receive an ear-tip while under sedation, the universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered.
