Louise came to us from our partners at Louisville Metro Animal Services as a consult case, and from the moment she arrived, our veterinary team got to work making sure nothing was overlooked.

While her initial blood work looked normal, her X-rays raised a concern — a possible blockage. Because intestinal blockages can be serious and even life-threatening, our on-staff veterinarian moved forward with exploratory surgery last week to ensure Louise received the highest standard of care.

Here’s the good news: during surgery, nothing abnormal was found. Based on what we know, we believe Louise likely passed whatever showed up on the X-ray overnight (yes — sometimes it really is just stool). Fortunately, she needed her spay surgery anyway. Louise was successfully spayed with no complications and is now a healthy, happy girl ready to return to her community.

At Alley Cat Advocates, we always follow through on diagnosing concerns and provide the gold-standard of veterinary care to every community cat — even when it turns out to be a false alarm. While Louise’s story has a happy ending, this level of care isn’t always as simple.

Care for cats like Louise — including diagnostics, surgery, and recovery — can be expensive. Your support truly makes a difference. Please consider donating in Louise’s honor to help fund her care and ensure other community cats receive the same thoughtful diagnosis and treatment.

With your help, we can continue to support cats in need by covering:

  • Diagnostic tests and follow‑up veterinary appointments
  • Medications and treatment for healing
  • Food and a calm, safe space to recover
  • Any additional care, should unexpected needs arise
