Founded 25 years ago today, Alley Cat Advocates has spayed or neutered more than 70,000 stray, free-roaming cats and has seen our community transformed into one that respects the needs of our citizens – cat lovers or not – and our community cats.
After a successful capital campaign in 2019, Alley Cat Advocates was able to move into their current home at the Community Cat Complex located on the campus of Louisville Metro Animal Services. This move has enabled the organization to provide onsite spay/neuter surgeries and medical care for the cats.
Adam Hamilton, Interim Director, Metro Animal Services, says, “As we celebrate Alley Cat Advocates’ remarkable 25-year journey, I extend heartfelt congratulations to our invaluable partners. Your unwavering dedication to saving cats and enriching our community resonates deeply. Your partnership has been instrumental, and as we reflect on the past with gratitude, we eagerly anticipate the years to come. Here’s to 25 years of impactful work, and to many more years to come.”
For 25 years, Alley Cat Advocates has been making Louisville the safest city in the country to be a community cat. This anniversary celebration provides a special opportunity for donors to support Alley Cat Advocates and ensure the organization will be sustained through an additional 25 years. A campaign is launching this month encouraging individuals to donate in honor of this milestone anniversary. Consider a one-time gift of $250 or a monthly donation of $25.
Karen Little, who founded the organization with her husband Hoyt in 1999, says, “This is no longer a community where those who feed cats are intimidated into stopping due to inhumane policies. Today, there is seldom a stray cat who is knowingly left outside to suffer from an illness or an injury. While not yet perfect in our work, the miles and miles we have come are nothing short of amazing.
