Did you know that August is National Make-A-Will Month? What does that have to do with Alley Cat Advocates? Well, we’re committed to the safety and well-being of our alley cats through our Trap-Neuter-Return program, but we’re also keen on ensuring that you and your own furry friends are also taken care of.
National Make-A-Will Month is an annual observance that emphasizes the significance of having an up-to-date plan because it’s one of the smartest ways to:
Protect your pets: You can identify a guardian for your furry friends in your estate plan and even describe their needs, such as anything about the food they consume or how often to take them to the vet.
Build Security: Creating your will and estate plan allows you to communicate important financial and healthcare decisions, so you’re prepared for whatever the future may hold.
Make an Impact: By including a legacy gift to Alley Cat Advocates in your will, you can help improve the lives of stray cats in our community for generations to come!
We’re heading into another year of partnership with FreeWill because their team makes estate planning more accessible. Using their online tool, you can make your will in just 20 minutes at no cost. You can also use FreeWill to update your plans, especially if you’ve experienced any life changes—from moving homes and getting a new pet to buying a car or supporting a new cause you value.
But your will does not control the distribution of certain assets (called non-probate assets), such as an IRA, 401(k), or life insurance policy. To ensure these assets go to the people and organizations you love, you can also use FreeWill to designate beneficiaries for all these assets.
Together, we’re providing for the humane treatment of unowned cats in our region and making our city the safest one in the country for community cats!
