Petco Love and Alley Cat Advocates Aim to Stop the Spread of Deadly Preventable Diseases Through Vaccinations

As Part of Petco Love’s Initiative to Provide 1 Million Vaccines, Alley Cat Advocates Will Distribute Donated Cat Vaccines as Part of Trap-Neuter-Return in the Louisville Area

Louisville, Kentucky (February 21, 2022) – Alley Cat Advocates will provide donated vaccinations supplied by Petco Love for Louisville area community cats. The donated vaccines are made possible through Petco Love’s new national vaccination initiative, which is providing 1 million vaccines to its existing animal welfare partners, including Alley Cat Advocates, for cats in need.

Parvovirus and distemper in dogs, and panleukopenia in cats, are some of the most prevalent deadly diseases impacting dogs and cats that are preventable with a simple vaccine. To address this critical need, Alley Cat Advocates and Petco Love are partnering to provide vaccines in an effort to ensure the health and wellness of our beloved cats.

Alley Cat Advocates aims to vaccinate 500 community cats through this effort. Alley Cat Advocates will offer these donated vaccines as part of our trap-neuter-return services throughout the next month(s).

Vaccines distributed to Alley Cat Advocates through the Petco Love initiative will be the HCP Feline vaccine.

“Thanks to Petco Love, we offer these important vaccines at no cost to community cat caretakers,” said Karen Little, Executive Director. “We urge community members to take advantage of our no cost spay/neuter and vaccination services to ensure the health and wellness of our community cats.”

“It is heartbreaking when any pet suffers or dies from a disease that could have been prevented. It is further exacerbated when unvaccinated pets come into busy shelter kennels, where these deadly diseases can spread quickly, resulting in multiple deaths, skyrocketing expenses, and hindering saving pet lives,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love President. “By creating greater awareness and making this crucial preventative care more accessible to pets not currently receiving these lifesaving vaccines, we can prevent the dangerous spread of disease.”
