Alley Cat Advocates Receives Funds to Help Citizens
Grants totaling $3,900 will help citizens spay or neuter cats in their neighborhoods
Louisville, KY – May 14, 2018 – Alley Cat Advocates of Louisville, Kentucky today announced the receipt of grants totaling $3,900 from Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Council’s Neighborhood Development Fund. The grant supports Alley Cat Advocates’ efforts to provide services to citizens of Jefferson County to help reduce the population of stray, free-roaming cat populations in their neighborhoods.
Alley Cat Advocates, as a nonprofit organization serving Louisville and the surrounding counties, has altered over 40,000 stray cats in the region since beginning in 1999. Since 2011 alone, these efforts have contributed to a 63% reduction in the intake of cats at Louisville Metro Animal Services, dramatically reducing taxpayer cost, overcrowded conditions, and animal euthanasia.
Investments from these 11 Metro Council Districts comprise the award: District 1, Jessica Green; District 2, Barbara Shanklin; District 4, Barbara Sexton Smith; District 5, Cheri Bryant Hamilton; District 6, David James; District 9, Bill Hollander; District 10, Pat Mulvihill; District 13, Vicki Aubrey Welch; District 14, Cindi Fowler; District 15, Marianne Butler; and District 25, David Yates.
“Our organization has enjoyed tremendous support from our community and its citizens as we work to make our neighborhoods more livable while improving the quality of the lives of our feline friends. Even for those not overly fond of cats, the advantages of spaying and neutering in the reduction in numbers and the change in behaviors that result make our work in the community a win-win. On behalf of the citizens to whom we can now offer no cost spay/neuter services, we express our heartfelt gratitude,” said Karen Little, the organization’s co-founder and executive director.
