A Big Thanks from Mel

Even though Mel is a shy guy, he wanted to let you know that he is very thankful for the care that he received at the Community Cat Complex. Mel had a wound on his hip that needed some extra care after he was neutered. Some cage rest, medication and TLC was all he needed to heal. Mel knows that your donations are the reason that he was able to get help at Alley Cat Advocates. He hopes you will donate in his honor to help more cats like him.

Volunteer Spotlight: Melissa Tindle

Caretakers can make great volunteers at Alley Cat Advocates. Melissa Tindle is a caretaker of a cat colony in Charlestown, IN. After she got help to TNR all of the cats in her colony she wanted to help other caretakers do the same. Melissa says she knows the stress of taking care of a colony of community cats and how important TNR is for those cats and caretakers. Melissa is great at encouraging caretakers and letting [...]

She is happy to help out in a way that she can help keep Alley Cat Advocates functioning. Eleanor likes to spend time volunteering and giving back to the community. Her other interests include walking and hiking, and reading a good book. Most importantly, she [...]

Alley Cat Advocates History – Part 5

In late 2018, Alley Cat Advocates accepted the opportunity to move our operations onto Louisville Metro Animal Services’ new campus with the lease of a freestanding building of approximately 4,500 square feet. To accommodate our needs, we began an $800,000 campaign to raise the funds to prepare this new Community Cat Complex for our use. When completed the building would provide adequate space to have, under one roof, the following functions: Spay/Neuter Clinic – allowing us to return to directly providing surgeries for our community cat clients and LMAS’ community cats, Medical Rehabilitation Space – [...]

We also have missed many familiar faces that have had to make the difficult decision to stay safe at home. With so [...]

Alley Cat Advocates History Part 4 – Defining Community Cats

After the success in zip code 40215, Alley Cat Advocates turned its attention to the Louisville Metro Council. We wanted to improve a portion of the city’s animal ordinances, the portion that required that all cats be owned, licensed, vaccinated and remain on the owner’s property. The ordinance required cats who were not in compliance to be rounded up, taken to Metro Animal Services, and euthanized if inside homes were not found, which was typically the reality. Using legislative models from other communities, Executive Director Karen Little worked closely with Metro Council members to develop [...]

No More Battle Scars for Jimbo

This is Jimbo. Jimbo looks a bit worse for wear. It isn't unusual to see unneutered male cats sporting battle scars from fighting. Fortunately, his old wounds have healed and now that he has been neutered he shouldn't pick up too many new ones. Unfortunately, his mouth is another story. Broken teeth and infection need to be addressed before he returns home. Can you help Jimbo get his dental work? Please donate now!
